Kerala's Niagara

I looked out through the window. A cold breeze enters into my room, i can feel the freshness in the air . The birds were in a rush to find a shelter giving a warning that its about to rain. The sky was tar-black, smoky clouds were covering the sun. As soon as the breeze was gone, the rain pitter-pattered on the rooftop. AHH, the smell of rain!

Bored of all these online classes i thought of going out somewhere to  experience this beautiful day. I called some of my friends and planned to go to Athirapally waterfalls. Athirapally is the most beautiful and the largest waterfalls in Kerala. Its also often described as 'Kerala's Niagara'. Its situated Athirapally Panchayat in Chalakudy Taluk of Thrissur district in Kerala, which originates from the upper reaches of the Western Ghats at the entrance to the Sholayar ranges. Lots of movies were shot here. Some scenes of the Bahubali movie were shot here.

To experience the best view of the waterfalls we have to go there in the monsoon season, that is from mid September to the last of December.

We started the journey to Athirapally falls. The roofs of the cars danced with light drizzling in the atmosphere and I could hear the murmuring of the rain through the window. Watching the downpour  with Johnson masters song played in the radio is just mind blowing. It was during the time of lock-down and because of  light drizzle in the atmosphere there was nobody on the way. The trees on the both sides bend towards the road making a protection from the rain. The sound of the waterfalls can be heard from a distance. On the road side so many monkeys were sitting and enjoying the rain.We can see so many other small waterfalls on the way. After a 2 hours of ride we reach the destination. Cant describe the view i saw from there, you have to experience it. The waterfall was in a full flow, it was drizziling down to the rocks. The water was clean, clear, pure and unpolluted. There was moist in the whole place. It was so refreshing. After spending some good time there , we climbed up were we can see the view from the top of the waterfalls. It quite difficult to reach there but the view was just outstanding. Athirapally is also famous for its freshwater fish. We thought of having lunch from a hotel nearby even though I did'nt like fish it was quite good actually. After the lunch we started the journey back home.

A day well spend, with lots of memories to remember. Stay tunned for more blogs.
